Although Pep Guardiola felt he could not miss out on Gianluigi Donnarumma, this does not mean he will forget Ederson, the most successful keeper City have ever had.

According to The Times, Ederson will leave a big void in the Man City dressing room, as he combined professionalism with humour and a big personality.

However, the outlet stressed that Donnarumma is also a big personality, reporting how those who have spent time around him in Manchester ‘say he has an aura about him’.

Donnarumma reportedly also made a great impression around the club with his politeness.

Before undertaking a two-hour session with the club’s media team, Donnarumma is said to have walked around the building and introduced himself to everyone he met.

Although he conducted his first interviews in his native Italian, Donnarumma has a good grasp of English, added the outlet.

What Pep Guardiola expects from Gianluigi Donnarumma

The spotlight was firmly on Donnarumma on Thursday, while Friday belonged to Rico Lewis, who signed a new contract at the club.

Friday also saw Pep Guardiola host his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s derby clash with Manchester United.

Ederson famously has amazing distribution, which few keepers can match, but Guardiola stressed that he would not be expecting the same from Donnarumma.

I will not demand that Gigi does something he’s uncomfortable with,” Guardiola told reporters.

“Ederson is the one of the best players I’ve ever seen in his distribution, short and long, so we are not asking Gigi to do what Ederson has done. Gigi has another quality.”

When asked about the other quality, Guardiola said: “He’s tall.

“All we want from the goalkeepers is to save [shots], and bring confidence to the team, and personality, and he has proven that many times.”
