Toronto police say a man in his 30s has been arrested following what they describe as two “unprovoked” assaults in North York earlier this week.
Officers responded to a call in the Weston Road and Finch Avenue area on Thursday at around 8:50 p.m. It’s alleged that the suspect first attacked a man sitting with his family, repeatedly punching him and striking him with a weapon before fleeing the are.
The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
In addition, police further allege the same suspect later struck another person with a weapon after they tried to intervene in a verbal altercation. That victim also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, who police identify as 37-year-old Victory Ogih of Toronto, has been charged with assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims.
None of the charges have been tested in court but police say Ogih did make his first appearance on Friday.
Anyone with further information is asked to come forward and contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers.
