The Roosters were quickly bundled out of this year’s finals series but coach Trent Robinson says there is plenty the club’s fan base can look forward to.
Despite entering the post-season in blazing hot form, the Roosters’ season ended on Saturday when they were upset by Cronulla at Shark Park.

The Roosters fielded a new-look team in 2025 after several experienced stars departed in the off-season. There were doubts over Robinson’s team before a ball was kicked, but to their credit, the Chooks were able to earn a top eight spot.

When the likes of Luke Keary, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Joey Manu and Joseph Suaalii leave the club, it’s going to leave a big hole.
However, that gave Robinson the chance to blood some inexperienced talent including Mark Nawaqanitawase, Salesi Foketi and Hugo Savala, all of who burst onto the scene with vigour in 2025.
Even though the Roosters’ season didn’t end the way they wanted to, Robinson believes this campaign will set the club up nicely for future success.
“I think the way we went about playing, we weren’t in a rush this year to sort of find our identity about who we’re going to be and you know,” Robinson said.
“You can talk about it but you can’t force it, you have to live it and play it and the boys did that.
“It’s a real credit to them the way they themselves as a team, they represented us in the way that the club went about going throughout the season and I feel like we re-established some really key things that will make you a great team.
“There’s some bits there to finish off obviously, but there’s a pretty good platform for some team that you want to be.”

Robinson was then asked if he considered the season a success.
He more or less answered no, given it won’t end in premiership glory, however Robinson says the club is building towards one.
“The thing is, it’s not about making finals, it’s not about not making finals. I said you’re either winning a premiership or you don’t,” he said.
“There’s not a reward for fourth or seventh or ninth or eleventh or like that’s not how the game … and we judge it based on that, we like to see a ladder and all of that. In the end, you either win the premiership or you don’t.
“Are you seeing things that you want to see that are heading towards a premiership? And if you are, that was a success.
“I saw us heading towards a better team than we’ve been in years because of where we focused our energy.
“It was a clear opportunity tonight to say, okay, here’s some things to fix up as well. And so, yeah, there’s only first or last. But the building blocks towards it, we’re heading in the right direction.”
