Ricky Stuart was adamant the decision to punish Reece Walsh’s headbutt and Hudson Young’s baiting with the same 10 minute sin bin was wrong, but didn’t want it to detract from such a great game.

The Broncos came back from 28-12 down while Walsh was in the sin bin for headbutting Young to win a 94 minute golden point epic with a Ben Hunt field goal in double extra time.

Stuart was struggling to digest the result after his side appeared to have won twice before getting their hearts brokwn.

“There was a couple of times we thought we had it won and then it all changes, It’s certainly a rollercoaster,” Stuart said.

Stuart believes Walsh being only sin-binned for a headbutt had set a precedent.

“Doesn’t matter what I think about it,” Stuart said.

“They have set a precedent now, you are allowed to headbutt.”

Raiders skipper Joe Tapine revealed what he said to the referee on the field over the decision.

“The ref said he got in his face, I said you’re allowed to celebrate a play,” Tapine said.

“We just got a good play. If I was to celebrate and someone punched me, am I in the wrong for celebrating something, that’s all I said.

Stuart intejected questioning what the result would be if the show was on the other foot.

“If Joe or Hudson headbutted Reece Walsh, what do you think would have happened to them?” Stuart said.

Tapine was confused why Young was sin-binned for sledging.

“I don’t know how they got the penalty to be honest,” Tapine said.

However, Stuart to his credit was more concerned about celebrating such a brilliant game of rugby league that will go down as perhaps the greatest final ever.

“Let’s not make it about that,” Stuart said.

“It was a wonderful game of football. Two very good footy teams. Some outstanding footballers out there. It was an unbelievable spectacle for rugby league.

Raiders Denied winner, AGAIN! | 00:38

“I mean they’ve got it 100% wrong, but we shouldn’t make it about that because it was an unbelievable promotion of the game itself.

“That was what both teams, the players went through for 94 minutes, it just goes to show you how tough these players are.

“It goes to show you the resilience that rugby league players have got.”

It will be difficult for the Raiders to put their heartbreak aside and get back on the horse next week against the Sharks in a sudden death final.

“That’s my job I’ve got to pick me up and them up and we’ve spoken about that,” Stuart said.

“But if you’re not hurting right now, you shouldn’t be doing the job. We dust ourselves off and go again.

“We’ve won games like that this year too, you’ve got to remember that. There’s been a number of games we’ve won like that.

“I imagine how Ivan and his team were feeling three weeks ago in Mudgee. The way we won that game. So that’s probably our job.

“We’ve got to be professional enough to have a day off tomorrow and we’ll get going again.”

Stuart is admant he has the team to win it all, despite making it harder ofor themselves.

“We’ve got a strong resolve, it doesn’t increase it, we’ve just got to do it the hard way now,” Stuart said.

“We’re a good enough football team but I’ve said a number of times, you need a little bit of luck.

“We were a little bit of luck tonight, but we’ve got into a position in this competition this year with having some luck on our side.”

Stuart praised Josh Papalii for his toughness to play with a sprained ankle after running 97 metres and making 32 tackles.

“Got 15 minutes Thursday and got three quarters of the way through yesterday, so he got through on toughness,” Stuart said.

“He was pretty keen to play Jesus. If he couldn’t get through yesterday and was going to be a liability I couldn’t have picked him.

“But there was no way Papa wasn’t going to let me pick him. But if you’ve seen the vision on how he did his ankle, you’d be amazed in regards to how he’s played.”
