Owen Cooper won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Sunday for his work on the Netflix miniseries “Adolescence.”
Along with Cooper, nominees in the limited-series supporting actor category included Javier Bardem for his performance in Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” FX’s “Dying for Sex” actor Rob Delaney, Apple TV+’s “Presumed Innocent” star Peter Sarsgaard, Bill Camp, also of “Presumed Innocent” and Netflix’s “Adolescence” actor Ashley Walters.
“Standing up here is just so surreal. Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple years back, I didn’t expect to even be in the United States, let alone here,” Cooper said in his humble acceptance speech. “But I think tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing about three years ago. I’m here now.”
15-year-old British actor Cooper was nominated for playing Jamie Miller in the Netflix miniseries “Adolescence,” which was his breakout role. He has become the youngest-ever male acting winner in Emmy history. The newcomer is next set to play Callum in the upcoming BBC drama series “Film Club” and has been cast as Young Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.
