Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was apparently unaware that his agent Pat Brisson would begin a firestorm of speculation with his recent comments.

There are rumours swirling around the future of Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby in the only NHL home he’s ever known, especially given that he’s in the midst of the longest playoff drought of his career with seemingly no end in sight.

There has been speculation that Crosby could choose to ask for a trade from the Penguins despite being under contract for another 2 years so that he could try and win a Stanley Cup once more before he retires.

Crosby also said that he wasn’t aware that his agent Pat Brisson was going to spark a firestorm with recent comments surrounding the future of his client.I was. And I think Pat knows how much I put into this, how much I love it. How much I want to be in the playoffs. Whether those quotes were taken for what they were, or if there was a different question put into those quotes, I don’t know the backstory. Pat and I didn’t have a conversation prior to him talking. I know that he knows it’s difficult when you lose. There’s probably a part of him that knows having to answer questions like this, time and time again I was asked the same thing last training camp, the same thing after last season.

Even though Crosby recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Penguins, this year will feature the farewell tour of a longtime teammate and fellow future Hall of Famer.

Evgeni Malkin, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2009 as playoff MVP, is expected to play his last year in the NHL. He’s unsigned after 2026, and the Penguins have shown no indication that they intend to offer him another deal.
