Russian forces struggling to gain ground in Ukraine are sending troops and supplies through empty gas pipelines in order to evade deadly drone strikes.
The latest use of pipelines as a tool of war took place around Kupyansk, a key rail hub some 120 kilometers (75 miles) southeast of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. As Russian soldiers seek to recapture the city as part of a weeks-long military operation, they’ve sent personnel into a gas pipeline under the Oskil River, according to officials on both sides.
