Although Riverdale took a turn for the polyamorous in its 2023 finale, one cast member is dispelling speculation about their behind-the-scenes sex lives.
Following KJ Apa‘s recent interview, in which he claimed the cast would “hook up with each other” while filming the CW show, his former co-star Madelaine Petsch declared in her reaction that she’s “never hooked up with a co-star.”
Although she didn’t call out the Archie actor by name, Petsch — who played Cheryl Blossom — mentioned a recent “article that came out that was like, ‘We all f*cked each other all the time.’ And I was like, ‘Hey, no, I did not f*ck any of you. I don’t claim that shit at all.’”
“I don’t mix business and pleasure like that. I’ve never hooked up with a co-star,” added Petsch on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “Do you know why, though? You know what’s really ironic about all this, is Cole [Sprouse] sat me down during the pilot and was like, ‘If I can give you one piece of advice Mads…,’ He was like, ‘Hey, don’t hook up with any of your co-stars, OK?’ And so I was like, ‘OK, got it. I won’t.’”
Sprouse dated their co-star Lili Reinhart during part of the show’s 2017-23 run.
Petsch’s comment comes after Apa explained that the cast had a unique bond. “You hook up with them, people hook up with each other,” he told Madelyn Cline for Entertainment Weekly.
“You have sex with them and stuff, and then things start happening. And then things get a little complicated, and then you’re on set, and now you’re fighting with them,” added Apa. “You sort of just have sex with them, and then you just sort of see what happens. It’s just part of the deal.”
