When Pippa Middleton and her billionaire husband, hedge fund manager James Matthews, purchased a 77-acre stretch of farmland in Berkshire back in 2020, it seemed like a quaint (relatively speaking) move. Pippa even gave it the whimsical name Bucklebury Farm and stocked its gift shop with pricey jugs and eco-totes. But now? That “charming country life” branding is colliding with the realities of living next door to a couple whose wealth makes the late Queen Elizabeth look middle-class.

Over the weekend, Middleton reportedly turned her husband’s 50th birthday into a production that had the village dogs shaking — literally. According to the Daily Mail, the celebration began with a Spitfire flyover, the kind of World War II fighter plane display usually reserved for air shows or royal anniversaries. The engines roared over the otherwise sleepy town, with one irritated neighbor saying they were worried about pets.

And that was just the afternoon. By nightfall, things escalated into a full-blown bash that allegedly kept locals up until 1:30 a.m. “It’s common courtesy and respect,” one villager told the Mail. Another flatly called the Middleton-Matthews approach “about entitlement,” before adding, “They could easily have had a silent disco.” Translation: the neighbors aren’t anti-party, they’re anti-being-auditioned-for-Love Island against their will.

The bash was reportedly “racy” in theme — a wink at Matthews’ brief stint in Formula One. Guests rumored to attend included Red Bull F1 boss Christian Horner and Geri Halliwell, plus James’s reality-TV-famous brother Spencer with wife Vogue Williams. Oh, and Pippa’s sister Kate and Prince William were thought to have made an appearance, which explains the level of security, if not the volume.

For context: Matthews isn’t just rich, he’s billionaire hedge fund rich, with a family title waiting in Scotland (hello, Lady Glen Affric). So if the neighbors thought they were signing up for bucolic village life when Pippa rolled into town with a farm shop, well — they’re learning that “country living” hits differently when the country in question is 145 acres, a private runway could fit on it, and your party favors include a WWII flyover from a royal-adjacent billionaire who keeps dabbling in the party-planning business.

The irony? Pippa and James have been positioning their farm as a wholesome family space, complete with talks of a children’s nursery and gift shop expansion. But after last weekend, it seems their neighbors might prefer fewer rustic toys — and more soundproofing.
