Who had the unheralded performance of the week?

Put wide receiver Jameson Williams high on the list for the job he did as a run blocker all game long. Williams helped spring David Montgomery‘s late 31-yard touchdown and was Detroit’s third highest graded run blocker by Pro Football Focus.

Credit to Williams, and really all of Detroit’s receivers, with taking on a run blocking role and excelling in it week after week.

“I thought his blocking was really good,” Campbell said of Williams.

What did Campbell like about linebacker Jack Campbell’s performance?

Jack Campbell suffered a laceration on his face and Dan Campbell joked that the defense loved it late in the game when Jack was trying to call the defense with blood running down his face and spitting out his helmet.

“He’s a stud this guy,” Campbell said. “He’s a workaholic. The knowledge for the game and the way he studies for the game. He prepares for it. He’s playing at a really high level right now. He’s all ball.”

Campbell led the Lions with eight tackles in Baltimore and added a sack, tackle for loss and forced fumble. He leads the defense with 26 tackles (17 solo) on the season.

Why is Detroit’s two-back system a good fit?

Montgomery rushed 12 times for 151 yards (12.6 avg.) and two touchdowns while adding one reception for 13 yards for 164 scrimmage yards vs. Baltimore. Those are single-game career highs in both rushing yards and scrimmage yards.

Monday night was a perfect example of how dangerous both he and Jahmyr Gibbs can be on any given week. Campbell said the Lions trust both backs to do everything within their offense and that confidence in their ability allows Detroit to use both players and keep them fresh throughout the course of a game and a season.

Montgomery said earlier this year he thought people had forgotten about his value a little bit with how much Gibbs stormed onto the scene late last season carrying the load while Montgomery was dealing with a knee injury.

“I haven’t forgotten about David,” Campbell said. “I can tell you that right now. He’s exactly who we know he is. We know what David is. That’s his type of game. That’s right up his alley. We know the kind of back he is, and we feel like he can do everything for us. The one-two punch with he and Gibbs, we think is what makes both of those guys pretty special.”
