A Co Derry councillor has led tributes after the death of her young son. OisÃn Johnston from Ballymaguigan passed away on Thursday, September 25.
He has been remembered as a “wonderful young man” known for his “warmth and spirit.” His mum, SDLP Councillor for Moyola and Deputy Chair of Mid Ulster Council, Denise Johnston, said: “My beautiful baby, our lives are changed forever.”
Posting on social media, SDLP Mid Ulster said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of OisÃn Johnston, beloved son of our dear friend and esteemed colleague, Councillor Denise Johnston.

“OisÃn was a wonderful young man—witty, kind, and wholeheartedly devoted to his mother and father. His warmth and spirit touched many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
“Councillor Johnston has long been a source of strength and compassion for the people of Mid-Ulster, supporting families through grief, hardship, and personal challenges. Now, in her time of sorrow, it is our turn to stand with her.
“The Mid-Ulster SDLP family offers our deepest condolences and unwavering support to Denise and her loved ones. We grieve with her, and we honour OisÃn’s life and legacy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
Paying tribute on social media, one person said: “Absolutely heartbreaking news, such a wee character. Condolences to Paul, Denise and the entire family, wider family circle and his friends.”
A funeral for OisÃn will be held on Sunday, September 28 at 2pm in Church of St Trea Newbridge, with interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
A notice from McCusker Bros Funeral Directors added: “OisÃn R.I.P. beloved son of Paul and Denise and loving brother of Katie (McKenna), Paul and Aodhán. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on his soul.”
