Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) said Monday that Donald Trump’s posting of a deepfake video that featured Democratic leaders slandering migrants and trans people was what a “little boy” would do. (Watch the video below.)
Marshall wasn’t siding against the president, but his explanation to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins sure didn’t legitimize Trump’s bigoted Truth Social entry.

After meeting with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader (D-N.Y.) Hakeem Jeffries, to perhaps avoid a government shutdown, Trump shared the AI clip, and Collins played a portion of it for Marshall.
“Look, guys, there’s no way to sugarcoat it,” the faux Schumer says with mariachi music playing in the background and a faux Jeffries wearing a sombrero. “Nobody likes Democrats anymore. We have no voters left because of all of our woke, trans bullshit. Not even Black people want to vote for us anymore. Even Latinos hate us.” (The full video also shows Schumer saying “illegal aliens” can’t speak English, “so they won’t realize we’re just a bunch of woke pieces of shit, you know?”)
“Is that appropriate in your view?” Collins asked Marshall.
“Look, I think sometimes the president plays with the press like a little boy and a flashlight and a dog,” Marshall said. “And he’s shining the flashlight here, and he’s shining it there. What he’s saying is, this offer from the Democrats is ridiculous: $1.5 trillion on top of funding that they already agreed to, that what they’re asking for is completely ridiculous. It’s disingenuous.”

Democrats want Republicans to roll back their $1 trillion cut to Medicaid and give concessions to people with Obamacare insurance.
“But couldn’t the president just say, ‘These demands are ridiculous,’ and not post a video with Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero, and, you know, putting that voice over Senator Schumer talking about people of color and immigrants?” Collins asked.
“I think he’s said that several times over already,” Marshall replied, accusing Democrats of not making a more serious offer.
“Just to be clear, you don’t have any objections to that video the president posted?” the host inquired.

“I tell you, I think it’s said in jest,” the Kansas Republican said. “I think it’s the president making fun of a couple people that didn’t bring a serious request to the White House.”
