The B.C. government has earmarked $220 million to build a new high school in Langford, which will have room for 2,000 students.

The school is still years away, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027 at a site at 2460 Gateway Rd.

There’s no confirmed completion date but the province is eyeing an opening date of 2029 or 2030.

“Langford is a vibrant and fast-growing community, and we’re excited to announce a new school to help meet that growth,” said Lisa Beare, B.C. minister of education and childcare.

“Today’s announcement is about making sure students and families in the area have the support they need – not just now, but well into the future,” she said Wednesday.

The new school will be made to meet high environmental standards, according to the province, and will include modern science and computer labs, a theatre, a gym, and a parking lot with EV spots.

The province says the classrooms and workshops will help students “explore a broad range of electives, such as art, foods, music, drama, technology, trades and business classes.”

“Promise made, promise kept,” said Ravi Parmar, MLA for Langford-Highlands in a statement Wednesday.

“We’re delivering a brand-new 2,000-seat secondary school for Langford, the largest investment in education our community has ever seen,” he said.

The announcement comes after a new elementary school opened its doors in Langford this August.
