Muhammed Ahsan (21) appeared before Cork District Court in relation four charges arising out of an alleged incident in north Kerry in the early hours of last Sunday morning, September 28.
Mr Ahsan – who is married with two young children – faces a total of four charges.
These include false imprisonment, endangerment, dangerous driving and theft.
Mr Ahsan was brought before Cork District Court as there was no district court sitting in Kerry.
Judge Mary Dorgan was told that while Mr Ahsan speaks reasonable English, an Urdu interpreter was required in court.
The endangerment charge related to Mr Ahsan operating his vehicle in the knowledge that the front passenger door was open and his passenger was hanging out of the vehicle as it merged onto a main road.
Mr Ahsan is also charged with the false imprisonment of the young woman.
A theft charge relates to a mobile phone.
The dangerous driving charge related to the alleged manner of driving at an address in north Kerry.
All four charges related to alleged incidents at or near an address in north Kerry in the early hours of September 28 last.
Detective Sergeant Shane O’Driscoll told the court that he arrested Mr Ahsan for the purpose of charging him at Listowel Garda Station at 6.57pm on Monday evening.
Judge Dorgan was told that, when the charges were formally put to Mr Ahsan after he was cautioned, he replied: “No.”
Defence solicitor Brendan Ahern confirmed to the court there would be no bail application before Cork District Court.
He said that a full bail application would be made at Listowel District Court on Thursday, October 2.
Judge Dorgan was told that an independent surety would be available for bail on that occasion.
However, she said this was a matter for the Kerry court as was the issue of legal aid.
Mr Ahern applied for his client to be remanded to Listowel District Court on Thursday.
It was directed that an Urdu interpreter be available for Listowel’s court hearing.
The solicitor asked that Mr Ahsan’s address not be published because of security concerns for his family.
Det Sgt O’Driscoll submitted that the name of the young woman involved not be published.
Judge Dorgan granted both applications and directed that nothing be published which might identify the young woman in the matter or the address of the defendant.
She remanded Mr Ahsan in custody to appear before Listowel District Court next Thursday.
Mr Ahsan, who appeared in court wearing a black sweater and pants, did not speak during the brief hearing.
