A man pulled over by heavily armed police in relation to the search for alleged cop killer Dezi Freeman has been cleared of any link to the investigation.

Police stopped a car in Undera, near Shepparton, on Wednesday while tactical police moved in and searched a home in Goomalibee, close to Benalla.

Freeman is alleged to have killed Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart, 34, as they served a warrant at his semi-rural property in Porepunkah, 300km northeast of Melbourne, on August 26.

A third officer, a detective that authorities have not identified publicly, underwent surgery for a leg wound.

Seven other police officers escaped physically uninjured.

Freeman — also known as Desmond Filby — allegedly fled the scene and has not been seen since.

Police have been searching the Mount Buffalo National Park nearby Porepunkah for the last two days in a continued bid to find the fugitive.

Nearly 100 additional officers from the Public Response Team were brought to the area to assist, with specialist search dogs from Queensland Police also deployed.

The Mount Buffalo National Park remains closed, police said.

“This decision is being constantly assessed and we will advise as soon as the park can re-open,” they said

“Victoria Police, including its tactical police, continue to maintain a significant presence in the Porepunkah area.

“We are committed to using every available resource and the necessary skills required to find Freeman.”

A $1 million reward is up for grabs for information leading to Freeman’s arrest.

The reward is the largest ever offered for an arrest in Victoria.
