TORONTO — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the one avowed Yankees hater among probably tens of millions of Yankees haters up here and in the States who actually has many and ongoing opportunities to hurt them. What’s more, Guerrero rarely misses a chance to do so, and Game 1 of the division series was the latest example — and the most hurtful, too (for the Yankees).
Hard-core baseball fans have to assume Guerrero probably took a little extra enjoyment from the Jays’ series-opening victory, even if he’s turned milquetoast in recent comments regarding the Yankees.
After years of enthusiastically trashing them, Guerrero has turned political now that he’s 26 with an American League record $500 million contract in tow.
“I bring the same energy every game, regardless of who I’m playing, especially in the playoffs,” Guerrero said through an interpreter after his typical monster game against the Yankees.
