The bad news for Fine Gael’s Heather Humphreys is that just 6pc of people thought she won the first TV debate of the presidential election campaign.

The sole crumb of good news is that her Fianna Fáil rival Jim Gavin did even worse, with a mere one in 20 (5pc) in today’s Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks poll deeming him to have emerged victorious from that battle of wits.
