Almost 7,000 homes in County Donegal remain without power as the Storm Amy cleanup effort continues.

According to data from the ESB’s PowerCheck website, a total of 6,885 homes and businesses are still without electricity across the county this morning.

The biggest outage is in Milford, where 2,507 homes do not have electricity.

In the last 24 hours, crews have restored power to over 16,000 premises in Donegal – however it is expected that some people may be without power into next week due to the scale of destruction that has been caused.

A number of emergency hubs have been set up across the county to offer basic essential services.

You can click here to find out where the closest emergency hub to you is.

Donegal Civil Defence, in partnership with Donegal County Council, are also offering support to vulnerable persons who may be without power.

They are providing essential services, such as collecting / delivering groceries, fuel, meals on wheels or medications to the vulnerable in the community during this period of electricity outage and inclement weather.

Transport assistance can also be provided to persons requiring urgent medical interventions such as dialysis, cancer care treatments etc.

Meanwhile, people are asked to check in on vulnerable neighbours to ensure they are safe and have access to essential services and if anyone is in need of assistance, please contact Donegal Civil Defence through the local call centre which will be open again for calls today, Sunday, from 9am to 4.30pm on 074 9153900. The normal out-of-hours emergency 074 91 72288 for the Council Road Service/Housing Department will be in operation outside of these hours. For emergencies requiring the assistance of the Fire Service call 999 or 112.
