Police have swarmed a south Auckland property where an officer has been shot.

Police said they were called to Flat Bush just about 9.30am on Monday, before a gun was fired at police.

A large number of police, some armed, have blocked off the Chapel Road between Baverstock and Stancombe Road.

Police have told RNZ they’re speaking via phone with someone who is holed up inside a flat.

They say the person is alone inside.

The Salvation Army told RNZ it was aware of an incident that occurred at or near one of its social housing properties.

“At this stage, we are still working to confirm the details of the situation, including any potential connection to our tenants or properties,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

“The Salvation Army is concerned about the situation, particularly the police officer involved, our tenants, the neighbours, and the impact on businesses and schools around the area.”

A large number of cars are being redirected away from the cordon.
