SALT LAKE CITY — President Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles revealed that there will be no new temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced during the 195th Semiannual General Conference.

“With the large number of temples now in the very earliest phases of planning and construction, it is appropriate that we slow down the announcement of new temples,” President Oaks said.

President Oaks explained that the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles counseled together and determined not to announce any new temples at this conference.

President Russell M. Nelson had announced 200 new temples throughout his tenure as president of the church.

While members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the church are sustained as prophets, seers and revelators by the body of the church, almost all new temples have been announced by the president of the church.

When President Spencer W. Kimball was serving as president of the church, he delegated a counselor in the First Presidency, President Gordon B. Hinckley, to announce the Taipei Taiwan Temple on March 31, 1982.
