The inaugural FIA Extreme H World Cup got underway is Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia, today (9 October) with the highly rated KRISTOFFERSON MOTORSPORT topping the Time Trials.
With three days of competition and three different disciplines to contest – Time Trials, Head-to-Head and Multi-Car – teams were eager to get their challenge off to a positive start.
The day’s final timesheet had a familiar feel about it after the two runs against the clock with Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky setting the pace for KRISTOFFERSON MOTORSPORT.
The ‘Super Swedes’ previously won the Extreme E title together back in 2023 and were marked as one of the early favourites to win this event, so it came as little surprise when the ultra-talented duo hooked up both their morning, and afternoon runs.
JAMEEL MOTORSPORT’s Molly Taylor and Kevin Hansen were second, with the latter completing the fastest time trial of the day. Hansen pushed the Pioneer 25 machine to its maximum through the twists and turns of the Tuwaiq mountains, as the pairing ended up just over half a second off the standings summit.
Third place belonged to TEAM HANSEN’s Catie Munnings and Andreas Bakkerud, with today’s combined results cementing the first World Cup Qualifying Points table.
The action continues tomorrow with the Head-to-Head contests, where 16 side-by-side heats will narrow the field to the knockout Semi-Finals and Finals.
Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, KRISTOFFERSSON MOTORSPORT, said: “We came out on top after combining the two trials today. It was super close with JAMEEL MOTORSPORT, but in the end we took the win. Everyone in the team has worked really well and really hard to put us in this position, and now we focus for tomorrow and the Head-to-Head races.”
Johan Kristoffersson, KRISTOFFERSSON MOTORSPORT, said: “That’s day one wrapped up, and we came out with a win – very happy with that. It was a very, very tight battle with Molly (Taylor) and Kevin (Hansen) today, so we’re super happy to pull out the win. We can enjoy it for a short moment, and then, shift our focus for tomorrow.”
