Technical visit to the Energy Transformation Research Laboratory of the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI)
The NEA Component Operational Experience, Degradation and Ageing Programme (CODAP) Management Board held its regular meeting in Tokyo, Japan, on 16–17 September 2025 to exchange views on operating experience and discuss future activities.
Following the meeting, a workshop with representatives from Japanese electricity utilities and CODAP Management Board members, including experts, regulators and technical support organisations from around the world, focused on the following key themes:
Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in nuclear power plants;
Extended period of shut-down and management of restart activities; and
CODAP database application.
On 18 September, the CODAP Management Board members visited the Energy Transformation Research Laboratory of the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI). During the visit, members toured several advanced testing and research facilities, including: Nondestructive Examination Equipment, Pipe Wall Thinning Test Facilities, Fluid Leakage Experiment Facility and SCC Testing Facility for High-Temperature Water Environments. The visit included active discussions and Q&A sessions with CRIEPI researchers, providing valuable insights into Japan’s technical capabilities and ongoing research in support of nuclear safety.
