A Madagascan army unit that played a key role in the nation’s 2009 coup has declared its support for anti-government demonstrators, with some of its soldiers joining protesters massed in the capital, Antananarivo.

Members of the Army Personnel Administration Center — known as CAPSAT — shared a video on social media on Saturday in which they voiced concern at the growing instability on the island nation, located in the Indian Ocean off Mozambique, and urged pro-government forces to show restraint.
