The West Coast Eagles have bolstered their key defensive stocks with the signing of Tylar Young from Richmond.

The Eagles landed Young in exchange for pick 38, adding to the earlier addition of Brandon Starcevich in the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, powered by Tyrepower.

Young, a 196cm defender, has signed a three-year contract with West Coast.

The 27-year-old joins ex-Tigers teammates Liam Baker and Jack Graham in the west and will reunite with former coach Andrew McQualter.

Young played 35 games for Richmond after being recruited in the 2022 rookie draft and impressed with his form at the end of last season returning from a knee reconstruction.

“We’re really pleased to bring Tylar into our football club and believe he can make an immediate impact for us next season,” Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke said.

“Tylar is a strong-bodied and mature key defender who our coach Andrew McQualter knows well from their time together.

“With his size and stature, he is capable of competing against the AFL’s power forwards and he will complement our existing defensive stocks.”

West Coast currently holds selections 1, 2, 13, 34, 41, 53 and 58 in next month’s Telstra AFL Draft following the trade for Young.
