In a message on Truth Social, Trump shared a screenshot of an October post from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calling for the U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize. “He deserves it!” the post reads.

And in a press gaggle with reporters, Trump alluded to how the prize was awarded based on achievements in 2024, adding that the panel deciding the honor could have made an “exception” given what he said were his accomplishments this year.

“In all fairness to the Nobel Committee … it was for 2024, this was picked for 2024,” he said while talking with reporters on Air Force One during a flight to Israel on Sunday. “There are those who say you can make an exception because a lot of things happened during ’25 that are done and complete and great.”

He went on: “I did this not for Nobel, I did this for saving lives.”

Trump has long griped about how former President Barack Obama was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize and groused that he deserves one as well. He’s also frequently bragged about solving multiple wars and clamored for recognition related to what he says he’s achieved.

In a Friday post on X, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung suggested the Nobel Committee had placed “politics over peace” when it selected María Corina Machado, a leader of Venezuela’s opposition, as the honoree this year.

Machado also referenced Trump in a message she posted on X after the announcement, stressing that she appreciated his support in the bid to combat Venezuela’s autocratic government.

“The person who actually got the Nobel Prize called today, called me and said, ‘I’m accepting this in honor of you, because you really deserved it,’” Trump told reporters on Friday.
