Donegal County Council has investigated 18 suspected illegal short-term lets within the last three years.
Four probes have been carried out this year to date, nine last year, and five in 2023, today’s Irish Independent reports.
Nationally, around 1,600 properties have been investigated by councils during the same period.
In the majority of cases, however, the only enforcement action taken was the issuing of a warning letter to owners. Some received enforcement notices threatening legal action if they did not comply.
