SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Tuesday that it will announce the new First Presidency that afternoon in a live broadcast announcement.
The worldwide announcement is scheduled for 1 p.m., according to the church.
“Jesus Christ leads His Church through a prophet, who serves as the President of the Church, and two Apostles who are called to be the prophet’s counselors, forming the First Presidency,” the church said Tuesday morning.
The church has been without a First Presidency since the death of President Russell M. Nelson late last month. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has been leading church matters since then, including the 195th Semiannual General Conference held approximately one week after his passing.
