House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) made a strange admission about how he is addressing the government shutdown on Tuesday.

The federal government has been shut down for nearly two weeks after Congress failed to pass a spending package ahead of the Sept. 30 deadline. Johnson, who has repeatedly blamed Democrats for the shutdown, told reporters on Tuesday that he has “no strategy” when it comes to resolving the issue.

CNN’s Manu Raju asked Johnson on Tuesday when he needs to “change” his strategy.

“It’s a great question. Manu asked, ‘Why don’t I change my strategy?’ I don’t have any strategy,” Johnson responded.

“I’m doing the right thing, the clearly obvious thing, the traditional thing. That’s exactly what Chuck Schumer voted for in March of this year and gave him impassioned speeches was the right and only thing. I don’t have anything to negotiate,” he added.

He emphasized that Republicans did not include “any Republican priorities or partisan priorities” in the temporary spending bill, noting that he does not “have anything that I can take off of that document to make it more palatable for them.”

“We’re not playing games. They’re playing a game. We’re not. The strategy is to do the right and obvious thing and keep the government moving for the people,” Johnson said.

President Donald Trump and Republicans have repeatedly blamed Democrats for the shutdown. Democrats opposed a GOP-led spending bill that would have temporarily funded the government due to concerns about expiring health care subsidies.

It’s not clear when the government shutdown could end. Democrats have vowed to oppose any spending bill that does not include an extension for the Obamacare subsidies slated to expire at the end of the year.
