Road closures are in place and train travel disrupted after a truck carrying a dump truck collided with a freight train in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast this morning.
Police were notified that a truck and freight train had collided at 6.20am.
“Fortunately both the truck and train drivers are uninjured,” a police spokesperson said.
Motorists were asked to follow the directions of emergency services staff at the scene.
Metlink train services on the Kāpiti line are being bus replaced between Waikanae and Paraparaumu.
Clearance of the line and the resumption of train services is currently expected to be around midday.
KiwiRail said the Elizabeth St level crossing was fully protected with barrier arms, lights and bells.
The Capital Connection service from Palmerston North has been bus replaced from Ōtaki.
