Rangers chiefs have been wowed by one candidate for the Ibrox job during talks to appoint a new manager, according to reports from TEAMtalk.

Gers chiefs are looking for a new manager following the decision to sack Russell Martin after a disastrous start to Rangers’ campaign.

Steven Gerrard was widely expected to return to Ibrox to replace Martin, however, the Liverpool legend unexpectedly withdrew from the race to take the top job.

Danny Rohl is out of work after leaving his position with troubled Sheffield Wednesday during the summer months, leaving Rangers with a clear run to secure the services of the talented young boss.

Danny Rohl Made a Real Impression on Rangers’ Hierarchy

Rohl, who has been described as “unbelievable”, could be fast-tracked into the Rangers job after leaving the club’s hierarchy thrilled by what they heard from him.

In recent talks, Rohl impressed chairman Andrew Cavenagh and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe, during talks in London about the role.

His dynamic, high-energy on-field approach and his track record of turning underperforming teams around have attracted the Glasgow giants to him as a candidate, especially following his recent performances while manager at Hillsborough.

Despite the issues off the pitch in Sheffield, Rohl emerged with real credit for the way that he kept the team performing — something that could be a real boost for Rangers.

The Glaswegian side are currently in a tricky position following a disastrous start to the campaign under Martin.

As well as being eliminated from the Champions League and losing their opening two Europa League fixtures, Rangers are also struggling in the Scottish Premiership.

Having secured just one win from seven games so far, Rangers are currently eighth in the table and nine points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Already 11 points off the top of the table, Rangers’ next boss faces a huge challenge to turn things around and push the club back into a title race.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Kevin Muscat is another name on Rangers’ shortlist for the role, while the club are also big admirers of another of their former players in Derek McInnes. It’s understood Muscat is a leading contender, but Rohl is clearly impressing and will also be considered before a final decision is made.
