A high-profile politician has been contacted by a garda fraud investigation into the running of a “charity” event. Gardaí are formally probing allegations that not enough of the funds raised were passed on to charity.
The politician, from one of the main political parties, is not accused of any wrongdoing. But they did play a prominent role in the event and lent it significant credibility.
