On Saturday October 4th, 2025, at approximately 8:52 a.m., Hamilton Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 987 Mohawk Road East.
During a search of the residence, firefighters located a 34-year-old male inside. The individual was removed from the building in vital signs absent (VSA) condition. Firefighters initiated lifesaving measures and successfully revived the male, who was subsequently transported to hospital.
Tragically, on October 13th, 2025, the male succumbed to his injuries and passed away in hospital.
The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) attended the scene and conducted an Origin and Cause investigation in conjunction with the Hamilton Police Service Fire/Arson Unit. The investigation determined that the fire was non-suspicious and accidental in nature.
The OFM continues to work to determine the exact cause and ignition sequence associated with the fire.
