The most likely option is the Airways Hotel, an 11-hectare site with its own medical clinic, several restaurants, bank and internal car service.

It has 286 security cameras and a guard force, as well as back-up fuel, back-up power and back-up water.

There is a tendency for power and water going offline in Papua New Guinea.

Players and their families will also have access to a private island – Loloata Island, which is about 20 minutes by boat from Port Moresby in a bid to escape the confines of their village and experience five-star accommodation.

Another option on the table is The Marriott, which has the advantage of being closer to the central business district, with views overlooking the harbour.

It is also a full secure and state of the art facility, with plans to expand on the surrounding land.

The final option is the Hilton, but that is the least likely option on the table at this stage.

The chance to house the players and their families is big business for the hotels in the running, but the NRL has to get the decision right because if the players and their families don’t feel safe, they won’t join the expansion team, depsite the speculated tax breaks on offer.

The NRL also need to consider the cost of these options as rent is very steep in Port Moresby.

But in order to bring it in line with Australia and ensure players aren’t disadvantaged, a trust fund will be set up by the NRL.

The NRL are also building a Chiefs Centre of Excellence, adjacent to the club’s ground, with the PNG government committing $50 million to build the state-of-the-art facility.
