A teenage boy has been stabbed in a park this evening. Merseyside Police were called to Derwent Drive in Pensby after reports of a stabbing at around 5.05pm on Sunday, October 19. It was reported that a 15-year-old boy had been stabbed once to the back in Ridgewood Park.

He has been taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for treatment to a puncture wound to his back. His condition is described as serious but stable.

The suspect, described as a white teenage male with long hair and wearing a white and blue jacket, made off on foot and extensive efforts are ongoing to locate him.

A 13-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of wounding and assisting an offender and taken into custody where she is being questioned.

Officers are in the area conducting a forensic examination of the scene, as well as witness and CCTV enquiries.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: “The community of Pensby will understandably be shocked and saddened to hear a young male has come to harm in this way in a park well used by local residents of all ages.

“Our investigation is progressing well, with a number of positive lines of enquiry being pursued, and we are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the park around the time of the incident who have not yet spoken to police.”

Detective Inspector Mulcahy added: “Reducing knife crime is a key priority all year round in Merseyside, and we are committed to using stop and search powers, carrying out open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners to remove weapons from the streets.

“While we are making positive progress, knife crime continues to have devastating consequences for those who carry such weapons as well as their victims.

“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have tragic consequences.

“There is absolutely no place for knives in our communities and I urge anyone with information on who is carrying them and where they are being stored to get in touch so we can act, or call Crimestoppers anonymously.”
