Max Verstappen is now within just 40 points of F1 world championship leader Oscar Piastri after a dominant United States GP performance.
Entering the race 55 points behind after Piastri’s DNF in the Sprint, Verstappen controlled the race from pole, was never headed and roared to a fifth win of the season.Â
Coupled with Piastri’s distant fifth, the McLaren driver now has 346 points, with Verstappen on 306.Â
After a battle with Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris was second – scoring 18 points, and moves to 332, with 141 left in the season.Â
Elsewhere, Ferrari’s strong performance, a three-four result for Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, enabled the team to score 37 points compared to Mercedes’ eight.Â
That means the Scuderia has closed to just seven points behind the Silver Arrows in the constructors’.
