Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd celebrated their 12th anniversary last week. The actress marked the occasion with an Instagram post, but it wasn’t exactly Hallmark-worthy. In fact, her words have led to backlash from fans, who have accused her of being “tone deaf” and “insensitive”.

Kristen Bell is being called out for her “weird” anniversary post

Kristen took to Instagram to celebrate her 12th wedding anniversary with Dax on October 17. In the post, she shared a photo of Dax sat on a bed with Kristen on his lap as the pair hug. While many fans speculated that it was actually one of the couple’s daughters in the image, it turns out Kristen really is that teeny tiny.

The real talking point, though, was what Kristen chose to write in the caption. It reads, “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.”

Not exactly heartwarming. Fans took to the comments to express their confusion over the odd tribute, particularly given its timing. One wrote: “During Domestic Violence Awareness Month? Tone deaf and insensitive, imo.”

Another added: “Crazy thing to joke about honestly. Sincerely, someone who thankfully survived.”

A third wrote: “Is this… supposed to be funny?”

Author Emma Szewczak wrote on X: “The death of woke is Kristen Bell thinking it was ok to post this to her 16 million followers, during Domestic Abuse Awareness month, when a girl or woman is killed by a man known to them every 10 minutes.”

The couple also raised eyebrows in the summer when Dax celebrated Kristen’s Emmy nom by posting a nude photo of her on his Insta. Perhaps we should be grateful she didn’t win…
