Tropical Storm Melissa has formed in the Caribbean Sea, where it threatens to bring dangerous flooding and landslides through the weekend.
Melissa, with top winds of 50 miles (80 kilometers) per hour, formed 300 miles south of Haiti’s Port-au-Prince, which is now under a hurricane watch, the US National Hurricane Center said Tuesday in an advisory. In addition to menacing Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Melissa may also bring flooding and heavy rain to Aruba, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. A tropical storm watch has been posted for Jamaica.
