Peru’s Congress voted in favor of confirming President José Jerí’s top minister and cabinet, an early sign of support as the new administration vows to tackle crime.
Jerí assumed the presidency less than two weeks ago when his predecessor was ousted by lawmakers. He had previously been serving as head of congress and is only set to govern on an interim basis until next July. Peru is notorious for cycling through presidents, having had eight in the past decade.
