Spells of heavy rain are expected at times overnight
A rain warning has now been issued by Met Eireann
A weather warning has been issued for parts of Ireland expected to be battered by heavy rain overnight.
Met Éireann issued the Status Yellow Rain warning for East Galway, Roscommon, Longford on Wednesday night, with “spells of heavy rain” expected at times overnight. The national forecaster warned that possible impacts from the rain include localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
The warning is valid from 9:2pm until 8am on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann has delivered its verdict on the possibility of snow over the coming weeks, and for those hoping for wintry scenes, the outlook is disappointing.
Ireland is set to experience a bitter Arctic chill in the coming days, with temperatures plunging close to freezing at times. While parts of the UK are forecast to see flurries this weekend, weather maps indicate that snow is unlikely to affect Ireland.
Temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with lows of 2C tomorrow morning and an icy 1C overnight on Sunday. Daytime highs will generally remain in the single figures, with bursts of heavy rain and hail at times.
Experts have also warned about the incoming windchill. Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather shared cold weather models online, explaining: “A short blast of cooler air heading our way from Thursday with a windchill that make it feel a lot cooler than recent weeks. The worst of the wind and rain will miss Ireland but still very breezy and showery with some heavy local showers.”
