Danny Rohl speaks to Rangers fans at full-time
Danny Rohl was forced to apologise to Rangers fans after a disastrous debut as gaffer saw them battered by Brann Bergen.
The new boss jumped over the stadium’s advertising hoardings after a 3-0 Europa League humiliation to say sorry in person.
The travelling Gers support jeered their players off the pitch after yet another dismal display.
But after Rohl spoke to them at full-time, they chanted his name.
The German has a massive job on his hands after taking over from Russell Martin.
The bruising defeat in Bergen made it three Europa League losses on the spin and left their qualification hopes hanging by a thread.
Rangers were second best all night against the Norwegians, who cruised to a historic victory thanks to goals from Emil Kornvig, Jacob Sorensen and Noah Holm.
Rohl felt compelled to go to the away fans at the end and admitted afterwards it was a reality check just four days into the job.
When asked if he expected better from his players, he said: “Yeah, of course. I think we should have high standards at Rangers.

“This is very important to understand.
“It was clear that everything couldn’t be right but we are very disappointed at a 3-0 defeat.
“(At the end) I first apologised (to the fans) for this defeat and the performance.
“They’ve travelled a lot for the team and they’re always there.
“This club has a lot of passionate fans and they deserve this.
“It was very important for me to show that I understand them.
“I said as well to them I’m working very hard to improve this group of players and get results.
“It was a great welcome before the game. Then you hope you can give them straight away the three points and a good feeling.
“So this makes me sad that I couldn’t. That was the reason why I walked to them to give them the big respect that they deserve.
“This is my job. We have to understand our fans are very patient and you cannot expect that they are always happy with us when we have such a performance.
“That’s why I made the step to be brave and go to them. Hopefully they understand why I did this.
“The reaction for me then was good. But we want to show them more and we have to.
“Today, the opponent was better, they deserved the win.
“They were more aggressive, they won more second balls. I think today I saw a lot about where we are at the moment and what is reality.
“We don’t have much time to change something but I want to see a step forward on Sunday (v Kilmarnock) and it means we have to win this game.”
Rohl confessed that Rangers now have a mountain to climb if they want to qualify from the Europa League group phase.
He was left to rue poor defending for Brann’s goals, while Rangers were powder puff in attack.
But he’s adamant there IS quality within the squad and he’s vowed to fix the problems.
He said: “I see a lot of potential and what we have to improve. That’s important to understand.
“I took this job to develop the players and improve them. We have to do it as individuals but also as a group.
“I agree the goals tonight were too easy. Mistakes happen but we have to help each other.
Danny Rohl speaks to Rangers fans
“We’re playing single football instead of group football right now.
“If we understand that and help each other, we can be successful.
“But if we just try to play our own game then it’s hard.
“Brann don’t have the best individual players but they work hard as a group.
“I think it’s hard work now (to qualify). But it’s about the turnaround our next game is the most important.
“To have a long term view makes no sense. We have a game every three days and that means we have to win.”
It was the worst possible start to life as Rangers boss but he insists the job ISN’T bigger than he anticipated.
He said: “There are reasons why we haven’t won in the past and you saw them again today.
“My job is to find a solution as soon as possible.
“Of course we hoped for a good start and to win this game but in football sometimes it’s just a wish.
“You have to work hard and it doesn’t go overnight just when you talk about it.
“We have to use every single minute to improve this performance and it should not come again.”
