This is the Philadelphia offense Eagles fans have been waiting for.
Saquon Barkley broke out from a subpar season for his first 100-yard rushing game of the 2025 campaign and the Eagles put on a clinic of offensive efficiency in a 38-20 blowout of the New York Giants. For the first time this season, Philadelphia’s offense looked like the unit that helped lead the franchise to its second Super Bowl title in February.

The Eagles didn’t leave Sunday’s game without concerns, though. Barkley pulled up from a run with a non-contact groin injury late in the game. He was listed as questionable, but did not return in the midst of a blowout.
Barkley remained on the sideline and appeared to be walking without much issue. He’ll have two weeks to recover as the Eagles head into a Week 9 bye.

Regardless of the late injury scare, Barkley had his best game of the season after failing to reach 100 yards on the ground in each of Philadelphia’s first seven games. He finished with 174 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns while averaging 10.7 yards per carry en route to 150 rushing yards.

His effort set the tone for an efficient day from quarterback Jalen Hurts, who completed 15 of 20 passes for 179 yards with four touchdowns and no turnovers. It added up to a reboot of the offensive formula that led Philadelphia to last seasons’s Super Bowl victory.
Saquon Barkley sets tone early
On the second play from scrimmage, Barkley took a handoff and broke through the left side of the line untouched. From there he ran 65 yards down the sideline for a touchdown and a 7-0 Eagles lead.
It was the type of play that was the hallmark of his historic 2024 season in which he ran for 2,005 yards and tallied 15 total touchdowns as the engine of Philadelphia’s offense en route to earning Offensive Player of the Year.

It was also reminiscent of last season’s game against New York in his first matchup against his former team. He gained 176 yards in that 28-3 Eagles win in Week 7. And he totaled an NFL single-season record seven touchdown runs of 60-plus yards during the season.
But those types of big plays have been conspicuously absent in 2025. Sunday’s was the first 60-plus-yard run for Barkley in the 2025 season. In fact, it was his first run of 20-plus yards. Entering Sunday, Barkley’s longest run of the season went for 18 yards. Through Week 7, Barkley was the NFL’s 22nd-leading rushing with 369 yards on the ground.
His 65-yard gain against the Giants eclipsed his rushing total in each of Philadelphia’s previous five games. But now Barkley’s tied with Jim Brown and Derrick Henry behind Adrian Peterson (15) with the second-most 60-plus-yard rushing touchdowns in league history with nine.
Barkley then added a 9-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter to put the Eagles up 14-7.
And he wasn’t the only Eagles running back with a standout day.

Tank Bigsby took over after Barkley’s injury and finished the game with 104 yards on the ground. In total, the Eagles tallied 276 yards on the ground. And they out-gained a Giants team reeling from a significant second-quarter ankle injury to running back Cam Skattebo, 427 yards to 246.
Stunningly, for a team that improved to 6-2 with Sunday’s win, it was the first time this season the Eagles outgained their opponent in total offense. Philadelphia’s offense has been a shell of last year’s Super Bowl unit and entered Sunday’s game ranked 26th in the NFL with 286.9 yards per game.

Whether this was a blip or the sign of a righting ship at midseason will be determined. But the Eagles have a week off before diving into the second half of the season in a Week 10 matchup against the Green Bay Packers in a game with significant implications in the race for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
