A young cricketer is fighting for his life in hospital after being injured during a pre-game warm-up in Melbourne yesterday.
Paramedics were called to a game at Wally Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully in Melbourne’s outer-east about 4.45pm.
It is believed the player, a 17-year-old boy, was hit in the head and neck area by a ball during the warm-up before a Twenty20 match being held at the ground.

The boy was treated at the scene by an ambulance team and Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics.
He was taken to Monash Medical Centre in Clayton in a critical condition.
His family are holding a vigil by his side in hospital.
Flowers were left by the nets following the incident.

The teenager is believed to be a promising young cricket player who has won several awards at Ferntree Gully Cricket Club.
Ringwood and District Cricket Association chair Michael Finn said he was aware of the incident and that his thoughts are with the player and his family.
Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria have been contacted for comment.
