Melbourne has signed a talented basketballer from the University of North Florida.

MELBOURNE has added another Demon to the mix, signing Oscar Berry as a Category B Rookie ahead of the 2026 AFL season.

Berry, who stands at 194cm tall, is set to add to the Dees’ depth, while bringing his unique experience from years on the college basketball circuit in the US.

Having begun his collegiate career at Fairleigh Dickenson University in New Jersey, the 23-year-old has spent the past four seasons playing for the University of North Florida, completing his degree earlier this year.

Melbourne AFL List Manager Tim Lamb said the club was thrilled to welcome Berry to the red and blue.

“We’re excited to welcome Oscar to the club for at least the next two seasons,” Lamb said.

“We had Oscar down for a trial earlier this year and were really impressed. He’s got great athleticism and aerial craft, and strong potential to develop into a key defender for us.

“We think Oscar will be a fantastic addition to our mix and look forward to him joining us next month.”

Berry, who grew up in Australia and played footy up until under-16s, qualifies as a Category B Rookie, given he has not been registered to play in any football competition over the past three years.

He comes from a rich sporting family; his brother Jordan spent eight years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings, while his other brother Wilson is currently signed as a punter with the University of Kentucky.

Melbourne’s AFL pre-season will commence in early November.
