A concerned resident in east Donegal is offering a reward of €1,000 to anyone who can help prevent a repeat of last year’s trouble when a fire was lit on top of a bridge.

Twelve months ago, scores of youths gathered on Dromore Bridge between Killygordon and Crossroads villages and started a blaze with tyres. Gardaí arrived on the scene a short-time later to disperse the crowd. It is believed the youths came to the area from other towns and villages in the Finn Valley.

However, a local resident is offering a substantial reward to anyone who can provide information that will lead to an arrest, conviction, or help prevent a repeat of last year’s antics.

“A number of years ago, a vacant house was set alight and, last year, tyres were burned on top of Dromore Bridge,” they told Donegal Daily.

“I am offering €1,000 to anyone who can help prevent this Halloween madness by providing information in advance to Gardaí or Donegal County Council. The reward can also be claimed if someone can provide details which leads to an arrest for conviction for the wanton destruction of private and public property in our community. Enough is enough”.

Local Councillor Patrick McGowan also described last year’s vandalism and an attack on the local community.

He urged anyone with information to come forward, stating: “Those who carried out this are criminals and anyone who has any knowledge of anyone who was involved has an obligation to contact the Garda or anyone else in the community. This can be done confidentially, giving as much details as possible.”

Gardaí can be contacted at the District Headquarters in Ballyshannon on 0719858530 or call the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111.

If you are aware of any location where materials are being stockpiled for bonfire night contact Donegal County Council at 074 91 53900 or report it online at www.donegalcoco.ie
