Workplace harassment complaints in Greece more than doubled to 318 in 2024 from 151 in 2022, according to the Labor Inspectorate’s annual report, released on Friday. Mobbing – verbal, psychological and moral harassment – accounted for 78% of cases.
The data shows a shift in harassment patterns, with employer-driven “vertical mobbing” decreasing as “horizontal mobbing” between colleagues increases.
Of complaints against fellow employees, 33% involved those in management positions while 26% involved peers at the same hierarchical level.
Through October 2025, inspectors conducted 1,806 workplace checks and received 374 complaints.
Georgia Vazaki, head of the Labor Inspectorate’s violence and harassment monitoring unit, said 31% of cases were resolved through mediation, avoiding court proceedings.
“Violence and harassment are now recognized psychosocial risks with an institutional protection framework,” Vazaki told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.
“The framework is strong and no one should be afraid.” Companies with over 70 employees must incorporate anti-harassment policies into workplace regulations. In 2024, 299 such regulations were filed.
