Department of Consumer Protection sends reminder on how restaurants and bars will be impacted by daylight saving time

  • November 2, 2025

(WFSB) – The Department of Consumer Protection sent a reminder on how bars and restaurants will be impacted by daylight saving time.

They said that when the clocks change from 2:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, bars and restaurants may not remain open an extra hour.

“With Halloween celebrations rolling right into the time change, we know that by the time Saturday night rolls around, you’re going to be tired, so just go home,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “We don’t care how good your costume is, there’s no exceptions. You’ll thank us when you wake up the next day with that extra hour of sleep to fuel you. So, when the clocks fall back this weekend, it’s a sign to be responsible, call a cab, a ride share, or your designated driver, and go home. Bars and restaurants may not stay open an hour later, but you can get an extra hour of sleep.”

State liquor regulations state that when the clocks change, no more sales, consumption, or presence of alcohol is allowed in bars or restaurants.

Those who have questions or wish to file a complaint regarding a liquor permittee in the state may contact the Liquor Control Division by emailing dcp.liquorcontrol@ct.gov or by calling (860) 713-6210. The Division also accepts complaints filed online at portal.ct.gov/liquorcomplaints.
