Charlton 1 Swansea City 1
The Addicks made it four games unbeaten in the Sky Bet Championship with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Swansea City at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Charlie Kelman netted his first Charlton goal in the first minute of the second half, but the visitors came on strong, and a draw was probably a fair result.
The Addicks had the better of the first half with James Bree controlling a headed clearance for Sonny Carey, whose flick looked goalbound but was headed away to safety by a Swans defender.Â
Macaulay Gillesphey was then denied by a wonderful save from Lawrence Vigouroux. The Addicks defender got his head to a deep James Bree set piece from the right but Vigouroux, diving to his right, got enough on the ball to tip it over the bar.Â
The visitors did little to trouble the Charlton goal in the opening 45 minutes, with Ronald driving a shot into the side netting the closest they came.
However, Nathan Jones did have to deal with two late first-half injuries, with Amari’i Bell and Reece Burke both limping off before the break.
Charlton took the lead in the first minute of the second period, when Conor Coventry played a clever ball in behind the Swansea defence, which Kelman latched onto. From close range the striker smashed the bouncing ball off the underside of the crossbar and into the net.
With the momentum and shooting towards the Covered End the good football continued and Bree got in on the right wing and cut back to Leaburn, who saw his shot well blocked.
After Charlton’s fast start, the visitors began to get a foothold in the game and levelled the scoring midway through the second half. Adam Idah smartly created a bit of shooting room for himself on the turn on the edge of the area and drove an excellent, low shot in off the post.Â
Both sides pushed for a winner, with Sonny Carey coming closest to scoring for Charlton with a powerful half-volley.
