In August 2012, soon after his relationship with Sarah Newman broke down, DJ Carey had started seeing a woman after meeting her on dating website Plenty of Fish.
When Carey revealed to Jane (not her real name) that he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma and regularly travelled to Seattle for treatments, she was devastated. Multiple myeloma is a type of bone marrow cancer that can affect areas of the body such as the spine, skull, pelvis and ribs.
