Reigning Melbourne jockeys’ premiership winner Blake Shinn was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg after a fall at Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup meeting at Flemington.
Shinn hit the turf after his mount She’s Got Pizzazz clipped heels at the 250m mark of the Group 3 Hong Kong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m).
Shinn remained conscious on the track before paramedics administered pain relief immediately after the race.

The Victorian Jockeys’ Association later confirmed medical staff suspected Shinn had sustained a broken leg.
As per normal practice after a fall, Racing Victoria stewards will open an inquiry into the incident.
The last race of the Flemington meeting was delayed as paramedics awaited an ambulance to take Shinn to hospital.
She’s Got Pizzazz, who completed the race riderless, underwent a precautionary examination back at the race day stalls.
