NEW YORK (WABC) — It’s Election Day and all eyes on are the race for New York City mayor and New Jersey governor as both elections carry significant weight in the national political picture.
Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa are all vying to become the 111th mayor of New York, the economic and cultural capital of the country.
And Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli are running against each other to become New Jersey’s governor in a contentious race that has gained considerable national attention.
New Jersey is one of only two gubernatorial races across the country, and since it comes one year after a presidential election and one year before the midterm elections, it is often seen as an indicator how both the White House and Congress are doing.

Hoax emails sent to 3 NYC polling locations
Polling locations in New York City also received hoax emails, similar to the ones in New Jersey, although it is unknown if they are connected.
Three emails were received so far at polling sites in Greenwich Village, Midtown, and Harlem. They were opened by workers.
The emails made threats apparently intended as swatting. NYPD is investigating, and no polling sites have been shut down.
The emails were all received when the sites opened Tuesday morning.

Multiple polling places in northern New Jersey were temporarily closed on Tuesday morning after precincts received emailed bomb threats that were later deemed not credible, prompting election officials to direct some voters to other polling locations.
New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said in part, “law enforcement responded to threats that were received by email” in multiple counties, and that while “polling locations have already reopened” at some, “at others, voters will be directed to a nearby polling location to cast their ballot.
